FIND AN FFL DEALER

Every firearm purchased on ShootingBid must be transferred through a licensed FFL dealer near you.

Why Do I Need an FFL Dealer?

Federal law (the Gun Control Act of 1968) requires that all interstate firearm transfers go through a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL). When you buy a firearm from a seller in another state, it must be shipped to an FFL dealer in your area, where you complete a background check and take possession.

Even if the seller is in your state, most choose to use FFL transfers for legal protection and verified documentation of the sale.

How to Find a Dealer

  1. Search the ATF FFL Database
  2. Search GunBroker FFL Finder
  3. Check local gun shops, pawn shops, and sporting goods stores — most are FFLs
  4. Search Google for "FFL dealer near me"

What to Ask Your FFL

  • What is your transfer fee?
  • What information do you need from the seller?
  • How long does the transfer take?
  • Do you accept transfers from individuals (not just dealers)?
  • Can I provide your FFL copy to the seller?
